Commisssioner Seeks Media Practitioners’ Support To Achieve Reliable, Accurate Census

The National Population Commission (NPC) federal Commisssioner in Kwara state, Alhaji Rasak Gidado has urged media Professionals to support the Commisssion to enable it achieve reliable, accurate and acceptable ,2023 population and housing Census .

Alhaji Gidado made the call while declaring open a one -day capacity building workshop for Journalists on effective reporting of the 2023 population and housing Census held at the NUJ press center in Ilorin.

Represented by the head of Technical unit Alhaji Zubair Olaitan ,the state NPC federal Commisssioner said the training will provide Journalists with the opportunity to understand the working of the newly introduced technology.

He said the media Professionals will be able to reflect same in their reportage to the public.

Alhaji Gidado explained that the migration from analog to digital exercise will reduce the strenuous paper exercise and make it more accurate and reliable.

He noted that the synergy between the Commisssion and the media will strengthen the Journalists capacity and understanding of it’s workings ahead of the 2023 population and housing Census.

In her paper presentation tittled “Enumeration Area Demarcation For The 2023 Population And Housing Census”the head of Cartography Unit of the National Population Commission in Kwara state, Mrs Adewara Janet ,said the exercise will entails the head count of every household,their social and economic life as well as number of houses among others.

She urged the media Professionals to join hands with the Commisssion to showcase it activities to the general public.

In her own presentation the Kwara state Head of Public Affairs Unit of the National Population Commission,Mrs Lawal Olufunmilayo urged media Professionals to help generate content that will reduce disinformation concerning the Census exercise.

In his address of welcome the Kwara state Director of Human Resource Unit of the National Population Commission,Mr Joseph Onigbolabi called for collaborative effort of the media and other members of the public to achieve success in the exercise.
