Osun Assembly Passes District Customary Court Amendment Bill

The State of Osun House of Assembly has today passed the State of Osun District and Customary Court Amendment 2022 bill.
The bill was passed with the motion moved by Chief Whip Hon. Babatunde Olatunji and seconded by Hon. Mulikat Abiola Jimoh during the Plenary of the House of Assembly Osogbo.
The Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye in his remarks noted that the bill would strengthen the judiciary arm of government.
He said that the bill would enhance customary court activities for good.
In a related development, the State of Osun Education Stimulus bill 2022 was read for the first time in the floor of the House of Assembly.
The Majority leader Hon. Maroof Olanrewaju while spelling out the merits of the bill noted that the bill if passed into law, said it would provide compulsory education for every child in the state.
He added that the bill would ensure and impact quality education on the children.
He assured the people that the bill would also enhance computer initiative knowledge of average children in the state.
He added that the bill would improve mental skill of child.
According to him, the bill if passed into law will improve mental skill of a child.
“This will enhance technological education of children in the state,” he added.
He maintained that the bill if passed into law would promote sound and improve education policy in the state respectively.
In a different development, the state of Osun House of Assembly has described the allegation level against the lawmakers by Consultant handling Ilesa Water project Engr. Tawakalitu Williams for alleged demand for $5,000,000 bribe as falsehood.
The Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye in his reaction noted that such statement could tarnish the image of state lawmakers.
He then demanded for retraction of the alleged statement within 24hours, otherwise the House of Assembly would take legal action on her.
He maintained that the House of Assembly would investigate the bribery allegations and come out with true findings.
According to him, no amount of blackmail can stop the House of Assembly investigation.
“Such allegation can disturb peace, harmony and development of the state” he added.
He said, “Within 24hours, if she did not retract the statement, she will be charged to court”.
He noted that there is no way she can stop the House of Assembly from carrying out their oversight functions.
In his remarks, the Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources and Energy Hon. Nasir Babatunde Olateju denied the allegation of demanding money from the consultant.
He said that nobody requested for money from Mrs Tawakalitu Williams and the contractor handling Ilesa water project.
In their various contributions, the lawmakers described the allegation as cheap misinformation and blackmail.
They said that no money was demanded from her, while urging the public to dismiss the allegation.
They also noted that her action is condemnable while legal action must be take on her respectively.
In the main time, the Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon Timothy Owoeye has also directed the office of Accountant General, Debt Management Office and Ministry of Finance to furnish the House of Assembly with debt profile of the state for classification.
