Community Deserted Following Letter Of Planned Attack By Bandits

Gulu community in Lapai Local Government of Niger State, North Central Nigeria, has been deserted following report of a threat letter purportedly sent to the community by armed bandits, notifying the people of plans to launch another attack on them on October 30.

Some of the people in the village, who ran to Minna for safety told our correspondent on Saturday, saying that the bandits planned to use the village as a base for other attacks.

In another development, armed men suspected to be armed bandits have attacked Maijaki village in Birnin Maza/ Tashibo ward of same local government area, killing one person and adducted 13 others.

The recent attack in the early hours Friday, our Correspondent gathered, came less than 48 hours after the attack at Gulu General Hospital where no fewer than 20 people, including the Medical Director and the Laboratory attendant were abducted.

Eyewitness account said the invaders stormed the village with sporadic gun shots and sent the people fleeing into nearby bushes, adding those that sustained gunshot injuries had been rushed to Lapai General Hospital for treatment.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Umar, confirmed the attack, adding that there was ongoing manhunt for the criminals and as well to safeguard the people in the area.
