Court Remands Man, 40, For Allegedly Killing His Father

Magistrate Folake Olokoyo of an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered the remand of a 40-year-old man, Olasunkanmi Alade, at Oke-Kura Correctional Centre for allegedly killing his father.

Olokoyo, subsequently, adjourned the matter until Feb. 7, for further mention.

Police prosecutor, Sgt. Olajide Sekonda, had earlier told the court that following information received on Jan. 6, a lifeless body with visible deep cut on his left hand laid on the road at Oke-Apa area in Omu-Aran.

The body, he said, was later identified as Dele Alade, the father of the defendant.

Sekonda said that immediate police action led to the evacuation of the body to the General Hospital, Omu-Aran and to the subsequent arrest of the defendant.

The prosecutor said that investigation conducted led to the recovery of the deceased’s handset in the defendant’s pocket with his SIM Card dislodged.

According to him, the defendant, on Jan. 5, at about 8.00p.m., prior to the death of the deceased, engaged his father in a physical fight, which took the efforts of other relatives to resolve.

He, however, prayed for the remand of the defendant pending the completion of further investigations.

The suspect, charged with culpable homicide, which contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code Law, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
